Growing up, my grandmother always told me a different version of the Durga story. In her tale, Durga wasn’t just a warrior goddess, but also a mother figure who protected the world.
She emphasised how Durga’s ten arms represented not just weapons, but also tools for creation and care. As I grew older, I saw Durga in the working mothers balancing careers and families, in people fighting for justice, and in ordinary women facing daily challenges with grace.
To me, Durga symbolises the inherent nature of womanhood—fierce yet compassionate. Every Durga Puja, as I stand before Maa Durga’s idol, I’m reminded of my grandmother’s words and the strength in every woman.
Do you see the glimpse of Maa Durga in the women of your family? Then share it with your friends and family and spread the essence of Puja with everyone.
