Our family’s celebration of Durga Puja begins with “Mahalaya” when we wake up at dawn to listen to age-old “Mahishasura Mardini” on the radio in Sri Birendra Krishna Bhadra. This has been the custom for every Bengali for years!
The next five days are a whirlwind of activities. From meeting friends for pandal hopping or simply having an adda session at Maddox Square to spending an evening at our para’s pandal, volunteering to manage the crowd, each has its own charm to me.
But the best part? I’d say it is Ashtami’s anjali and the bhog afterwards. Ashtami has always been a fan favourite among us Bengalis, isn’t it?
