The Indian stock market closed in the red on February 12, 2024, amid profit booking. At close, Sensex declined 523 points at 71,072.49 while Nifty fell 166 points and ended the session at 21,616.05.
Around 524 stocks advanced and 2089 declined while 88 stocks remained unchanged.
On the sectoral front, FMCG, PSU Bank, capital goods, metal, oil & gas, power, and realty were down 1-4 percent each. Healthcare and IT indices ended in the green.

Asia markets were mixed on Monday to start a holiday-shortened week for most markets, while China remains shut for the week. Many major stock markets in Asia-Pacific were closed Monday including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.4% lower at 7,614.90. The New Zealand dollar dipped 0.28% to $0.6128, cooling from a roughly 1.4% jump last week, according to a CNBC report.
European shares climbed on Monday, buoyed by the momentum on Wall Street that propelled the S&P 500 to close above 5,000 for the first time. Investors assessed earnings and economic data for insights into the European Central Bank’s rate outlook, according to a Reuters report.
FTSE shed 0.14 percent at 7,561 while CAC added 0.48 percent at 7,684. German DAX gained 0.46 percent at 17,004.
