Stock Market at Close: Nifty Hits New High; Pharma, FMCG Top Gainers

The Indian stock market ended the session on February 19, 2024, on a positive note with Nifty hitting an all-time high. At close, the Sensex was up 281.52 points or 0.39 percent at 72,708.16, and the Nifty was up 81.60 points or 0.37 percent at 22,122.30.

Around 2184 stocks advanced and 1243 shares declined while 123 stocks remained unchanged.

Among sectors, capital goods, IT metal, and realty ended in the red, while auto, bank, FMCG, healthcare, oil & gas, power up 0.3 -1 percent.

Nifty Pharma hits 52-week high

The pharma index hit a new 52-week high of 19,079.30 on February 19, 2024. The top gainers included Natco Pharma which jumped over 4 percent followed by Sanofi, Granules India, Cipla, Zydus Lifesciences, and Laurus Labs.

Asian markets end up mixed

Stock markets in China rose as traders returned from a long holiday on Monday to upbeat travel data, while Hong Kong stocks fell. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell 1 percent, while the Hang Seng Tech index shed 2.7 percent, according to a report.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 inched 0.07 percent lower, while the broader Topix added 0.5 percent. South Korea’s Kospi added 1.3 percent, while the smaller-cap Kosdaq was flat. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.1 percent higher at 7,665.10.

European markets under pressure

European markets started the new trading week on a negative note, changing course after largely positive sentiment last week. FTSE was marginally higher by 0.05 percent at 7,715.71 while CAC shed 0.36 percent at 7,739.91. German DAX shed 0.26 percent at 17,073.07.
