Sensex, Nifty Rise Led by Metals, Media Stocks; Tata Steel, M&M Top Gainers

The Indian stock market was trading in the green intraday on March 18, 2024. At 1:58 PM, Sensex was up 163 points at 72,806.77 while Nifty added 32 points at 22,055.90.

Around 1,970 stocks advanced and 1,868 declined while 140 stocks remained unchanged.

Among the sectors, buying was seen in metals, media, and the auto space which added 0.5-1 percent. These were followed by pharma and oil & gas. On the other hand, selling was witnessed in the IT and FMCG space.

Asian Markets Trade Higher

Major Asian markets were trading in the green with Japan’s Nikkei adding 2.6 percent at 39,740.44. Kospi was up 0.71 percent at 2,685.84. Hang Seng was up 0.11 percent at 16,739.88.

European Markets Rise

European markets at open on March 18, 2024, were trading in the green. FTSE was up 0.1 percent at 7,735.32 while CAC rose 0.14 percent at 8,175.80. German DAX gained 0.16 percent at 17,964.86.

Adani Group Stocks Slide

Adani Group stocks were in focus on March 18, 2024, after reports of US probing Indian billionaire Gautam Adani and his Group over potential bribery. According to a Bloomberg report, US prosecutors are widening their probe of India’s Adani Group to focus on whether the company may have engaged in bribery as well as the conduct of the company’s billionaire founder.

DroneAcharya Aerial Jumps 5%

DroneAcharya Aerial Innovations’ share price rose 5 percent after the company secured a contract to supply IT hardware for the Indian Army’s drone lab in Jammu and Kashmir. The provision of IT hardware, including CPUs, monitors, keyboards, and mice, for the drone lab will contribute significantly to the establishment and operation of this state-of-the-art facility, it said.

“We are honored to have received this contract from the Indian Army for the establishment of the Drone Lab in J&K,” DroneAcharya founder and managing director Prateek Srivastava said.
