Sensex, Nifty Close in the Red; IT, Metal Sectors Slip 1% Each

The Indian stock market ended in the red on February 26, 2024. At close, Sensex shed 352 points at 72,790.13 while Nifty was down 90 points at 22,122.05.

Around 1,717 stocks advanced and 2,262 declined while 129 stocks remained unchanged on the BSE.

Among sectors, Information Technology and Metal are down 1 percent each, while Bank and Pharma are down 0.5 percent each. On the other hand, oil & gas, power, and capital goods are up 0.5-1 percent.

Asian Markets

Japan’s Nikkei 225 index hit a fresh high Monday as traders returned from a long weekend, while China markets snapped a nine-day winning streak. The Nikkei ended 0.4 percent higher at 39,233.71, according to a CNBC.com report.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was last down 0.5 percent. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 ended 0.1 percent higher at 7,652.80.

European Markets

European markets opened lower on February 26, 2024, as global investors look ahead to more inflation data this week. FTSE was down 0.29 percent at 7,683.95 while CAC shed 0.38 percent at 7,936.09. German DAX added 0.1 percent at 17,436.31.
